Lack of easy information for spectators is
why Civil War Battle Spectator
was started. We hope to become a
one-stop source for mid-Atlantic battle event info that helps
spectators find events.
Other event listings are for
re-enactors. We have called re-enactor contact people. Many have been
helpful. But others...well they're tied up solving problems at the
re-enactor end, which is as it should be. They lack information for
spectators, or a phone number of a contact person so spectators who
don't live in the area can get the information they need to make
plans.
For years we spectators have depended for
battle event information on a re-enactor magazine, THE CAMP CHASE GAZETTE. Yes, because we had to. But mostly because it's a
great magazine. More recently, we used
thethe
Camp Chase website. But their
web site's event listings reach ahead only about 2 months while the
magazine listings span about 6 months..
Even though it's aimed at
re-enactors and their needs we can't giveCAMP CHASE a high
enough recommendation. It's done out of Marietta, Ohio. They do
pre-event and post-event reports, along with many articles of special
interest for re-enactors, but which can be fascinating to spectators.
The letters provide nice behind-the-scenes (often surprising) views
of what these folks have to deal with, on and off the field--and of
the rewards of going on the field in the first place.
Subscription is $24/year for 10
issues and worth every cent of it. They have a toll-free number for
ordering: 1-800-449-1865. There used to be another decent magazine
called RE-ENACTORS
JOURNAL. But it weakened then
disappeared totally a year or so ago.

Please send us details
that non-local spectators coming a distance would
need: Dates, battle times, directions to the site, admission/parking
costs, how many reenactors are anticipated, etc.
